lyrics

Across the way is a crumbling wall
He stood and wondered as the bricks did fall
She stands behind him as her fingers dance through his hair
and neither one of them wanted to look there
so he turned around but she stayed and stared
He said “I know” and she said “You’re not alone.”

So they picked up their feet and ran
because it’s hard not to wonder where the end began
and he felt the ground slide beneath his feet
because the rain was now coming down in sheets
but she said “When you have no footing I can be your land”
“If you start to fall just take my hand.”

And now he’s wading through an endless field of snow
he holds his back as he wonders where the years did go
she’s huddled close to him a scarf wrapped over her face
her legs grow weak as the snow turns to haze and he says
“Every step we take is shorter than the last.”
“It’s like we’re slowing down ‘till we finally collapse.”
and she starts to fall but he stands tall
she says “I know.” and he says “You’re not alone.”

So they picked up their feet and ran
because it’s hard not to wonder where the end began
and she felt her eyes slowly start to close
because the sand was so hot between her toes
but he said “When you’re growing weary I can be your bed.”
“If you start to fall just take my hand.”

And when he saw the heavens come crashing down
heard those people crying and the rumbling of the ground
She holds on tightly fingers wrapped up in his shirt
and he stands firmly but the wind gusts hurt and he stumbles
forward. Hands in the dirt. He says “I know.” and she says “You’re not alone,”

So he took her hand to stand
because it’s hard not to wonder where the end began
and he saw the last brick upon the ground
because the wall had already come down
“All you see is darkness, but I can be your light.”
“If you start to fall just hold me tight.”

So they picked up their feet and ran
because it’s hard not to wonder where the end began
and he felt the ground slide beneath his feet
because the rain was now coming down in sheets
but she said “When you have no footing I can be your land”
“If you start to fall just take my hand.”
“When you have no footing I can be your land”
“If you start to fall just take my hand.”
